- McAleer &Rushe Senior championship final 2022
St Kiernans 1-06
Fulham Irish 0-9
Both sides will have to do it all again as yesterdays final ended in stalemate , We will probably look at the high wide count and overall lack of clinical finishing as the main reason we did not take the silverware but we again showed resilience when the game looked gone in the closing stages to conjure up another goal from Joe Rock , we started the game very brightly and carried the most threat for the first ten minutes with scores from Kevin and Kenny giving us an early cushion , a black card on 13 minutes for Caoimhin gave Fulham some respite and a foothold in the game and they found themselves 0-4 to 0-3 up once the ten minutes sin bin was up , we were very unlucky to see the post and crossbar come to Fulham's rescue twice from Kevin and really if either had gone in this game may have looked very different , a fantastic Kevin McCarthy point on 28 minutes saw us go in with a slight deficit of a single point to find on Fulham
Half time score
Fulham Irish 0-05
St Kiernans 0-04
The second half ebbed and flowed but was dotted with several very poor wides from us which saw us always chasing the tie but two scores from Kevin and Chris Farley from a free when he had been stopped in his tracks by The Fulham defender who was very fortunate to see yellow and not black , once again poor shooting cost us and seven wides on the spin between the 11th and 26th minute told its own story , this was countered by two points from Fulham in the 12th and 27th minute to see them open a two point gap, a long raking free from the ground from Marcus caused chaos in the Fulham backline and once again Joe Rock was on hold to palm the ball home and give us a single point cushion with three minutes additional time left on the clock , enough time for Fulham to launch an attack which was dealt with but from our next kick out we held on that bit too long to allow Fulham a scoreable free which was duly converted by Murphy to tie things up again , we moved the ball upfield again from the re start and eventually the ball found its way to Kevin whose shot was wide while under pressure and this was the final action of the match , all in all with our shooting as it was we cant be too disappointed not to win it first time round but leaves us with things to work on for the replay in two weeks time .
