McAleer and Rushe Senior championship semi final

St Kiernans 2-13

Tir Conaill Gaels 3-09

It was late but it was worth it , the overall feeling of jubilation following Sundays last gasp victory over TCG in a game where we were behind for most and looked dead and buried was clear to see on players , management and spectators alike once the final whistled blew on one of the most dramatic championship games Ruislip has seen in a long time , 7 down with 42 minutes played we looked to be leaving the stage but a mixture of substitutions, belief and hard work saw us nick the result at the death with a rocket from the Rock , we came in to the game after a very successful run in both the group stages and with the Division 1 league title clinched but TCG did not read any pre match predictions and by half time had penetrated our defence for two goals and had a seven point cushion , a few harsh words were exchanged in the dressing room and we came out a different team in the second half , the game started well enough for us and we raced somewhat easily in to a -05 to 0-02 lead thanks to scores from Kevin (2) and Kenny(3), whether we dropped our levels or TCG upped theirs the next 10-15 minutes saw us concede 2-6 with a goal before half time a particular sucker punch leaving us reeling and facing mountain to climb .

Willie Brazil turned the mountain in to a hill with a well taken goal after good build up play from Farley to reduce the arrears to four points but after a few turnovers and forced passes TCG were awarded a penalty and when scored left us with the same 7 point mountain again , we went to the well again , Kevin saw a goal disallowed following a mix up over mark or not scoring the resultant free ,Farley followed with another and 5points now separated us, goal chances presented themselves but great stops from McEvoy from Kevin and Chris Griffin had us thinking it wouldn't be our day , a black card for Gavagan was a huge blow but all the pressure was coming from us now and further scores from Kevin (2) and Eoin (1) meant we were only two points down , TCG got one back again in the last minute of normal time and Kevin pointed a free on the 60th minute to leave two in it again , TCG did break away at times but last gasp defending saw us protect the goal and a shot dropped short in to Dan's hands gave us the platform to build again , each time we ran at goal fouls were committed from a team desperate to see it out and the last one with 40 seconds on the clock saw Kevin line up to go for goal , the congested goal line saw it blocked and the rebound landed at the feet of Joe Rock who swivelled on a six pence and buried it past the army of Gaels on the goal line. When the dust settled we are now back in the Senior final to face Fulham Irish in two weeks time , October 16th at 3.00pm .

What a way to do it !

On Saturday our reserves went down to a very good Round Towers side in the championship semi final , it was a game we were chasing from the off and can have no complaints with the 1-13 to 0-06 score line , however a great sign of the club to have played 30 games this season without conceding one fixture .We go again next year .
